Meet the CCS Panelists

MIT Energy Conference CCS Panel (Apr 5 2008)

  1. We thought you might like to know a little more about the panelists who will be discussing carbon capture and sequestration at the MIT Energy Conference. We’ve assembled an all-star lineup and are excited for you to hear them speak. Below is some background information on each of them:

    George Peridas, NRDC

    His own NRDC blog: http://switchboard.nrdc.org/blogs/gperidas/
This is Mr. Peridas’ personal blog including comment and opinions on the FutureGen project.

Article from NRDC’s onearth magazine: http://www.onearth.org/article/science-to-the-rescue
This article from 2007 is about NRDC’s establishment of a Science Center dedicated to the analysis and synthesis of data on critical environmental issues. The Center also makes this knowledge available to policy makers and the public.

    Presentation on CCS regulation: http://docs.nrdc.org/globalWarming/glo_08021301_Peridas.pdf
Presentation from February 2008 on emerging regulatory frameworks for CCS. This presentation was made to the CCS Public Workshop in Sacramento, CA.

Letter on CCS to the Chairwoman of the California Legislature Natural Resources Committee: http://www.precaution.org/lib/nrdc_defends_carbon_sequestration.070501.pdf
This 2007 letter is in response to debate in California on the regulation of CCS projects.

    Bruce Braine, AEP

    Presentation on AEP’s CO2 strategy: http://www.co2conference.org/pdfs/braine.pdf
Presentation from 2007 to the Symposium to commemorate the 50th anniversary of global CO2 recording. The presentation outlines American Electric Power’s (AEP’s) CO2 strategy.

    Scott Klara, NETL

Biography on the NETL website: http://www.netl.doe.gov/newsroom/bios.html

    NETL Sequestration Program: http://www.netl.doe.gov/technologies/carbon_seq/index.html
As the primary national laboratory with responsibility for fossil energy, the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) has extensive research portfolios in CO2 capture and sequestration.

NETL study on the costs of CCS at powerplants: http://www.netl.doe.gov/energy-analyses/pubs/Baseline%20Technical%20and%20Economic%20Assessment%20of%20a%20Commercial%20S.pdf
NETL presents this 2007 on the projected costs involved in pre- and post-combustion capture of CO2 from coal- and gas-fired powerplants. Levelized cost of electricity and avoided CO2 cost data are presented.
